Dr. Onome Abiri is a Senior Specialist, Social and Administrative Pharmacist, Pharmacologist, working as the Head of the Clinical Trials and Pharmacovigilance Department at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone. Some of his qualifications include: a Bachelor in Pharmacy with honours; a Doctor of Pharmacy; Master of Science in Pharmacology and Therapeutics; Fellowship-West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists in Social and Administrative Pharmacy (FPCPharm); Fellowship- Sierra Leone Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (FPCP-SL); Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods, Bioinformatics, Advanced Epidemiology and Biostatistics (PGDRM) and PhD candidate in Pharmacology and Therapeutics (PhD research area- antibiotic resistance and utilization).
He has participated in many clinical trials and pharmacovigilance workshops, conferences, and meetings both sub-regionally and internationally. He is a researcher with an interest in pharmacoepidemiology, public health, pharmacovigilance, clinical trials, pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmacy practice with publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (UK). He is a scientific reviewer for pharmacovigilance, clinical trials and marketing authorization. He is also, GxP inspector with expertise in Good manufacturing practice (GMP), (Good clinical and laboratory practice (GCLP), Good distribution practice (GDP), Good storage practice (GSP) and Good pharmacy practice (GPP) and Good Pharmacovigilance practice (GVP).
He is also a member of several technical, scientific, and professional bodies locally and internationally such as: the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) Expert Working Group Member on Clinical Trials, National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) as a non-core member, Vaccine Safety and AEFI Causality Assessment Committee member of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation member, Member- International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISOP), Member-West African Society of Pharmacologists (WASP) and Member- West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN).
